Experience the memories of Medellin, Colombia

El Museo de la casa de la Memoria or “Memory House Museum” for its English translation, is a place with oral and written testimonies, legal documents, letters, stories, literary production, material, audiovisual and radio, feature films, historical material, and photographs documentaries of the city of Medellin. It is the perfect place to understand the past of the city and be able to better appreciate the present.

The main objective of this museum is to do activities that seek the documentation and conservation of memories to understand the armed conflict and violence.

The Casa de la Memoria Museum was created in 2006 —based on a program for attention to victims of violence in Medellin, carried out by Medellin government to understand and overcome the armed conflict and the various forms of violence in Medellin, Antioquia and the country. It is a museum located in the heart of the city where the memories of the armed conflict that the country is experiencing have a physical and symbolic place and that aims to help the cultural transformation that Colombia wish for.

The museum is full of living memories and testimonies and its motto is “We are Living Memories, to see but not to repeat”. This space is a house to understand what happened and is happening in thr society, rediscover hope and think about the future.

Visiting the museum will show you how much the city of Medellin has changed from “dangerous city in the world” to what it is today. Adding this to your itinerary is a must.

The museum is close on Mondays and if its public holiday,
then it’s close to following Tuesday.

Travel Tips / FYI

If you’re interested in an English guided tour, you can book on Tuesday or Friday of the week at Schedule Guided Tour; Keep in mind that guided tours need to be scheduled 1 week in advance.

Tours take place during regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The visit is scheduled to start at least two hours before so you have enough time to see everything.

Getting There & Parking

The museum is located at Parque Bicentenario, this park is a cool spot to see Medellin culture, enjoy some street food and simply just do people watching. You will recognize this park and the entrance to the museum because it has a big water screen.

Metro: take the metro to San Antonio station and the transfer to the transvia which will take you to Bicentario station, the museum is 2 blocks from the station

Uber / Taxi: Coming from Poblado you can take Uber or Taxi it should post around 20 mil

Walking: Take the metro to Parque Berrio and its about 10 minute walk going east. You can find the transvia rails and just follow that up to Bicentario station.
