The history of the church
The construction of Iglesia Señor de las Misericordias took place between 1921 and 1931, designed by the talented architect Andrés Lorenzo Huarte. This magnificent church, along with the adjacent monastery of Hermanos Carmelitas Descalzos, occupies an entire block in Manrique, spanning from Calles 67 and 68 to Carreras 47 and 48.
In recognition of its cultural, artistic, and religious significance, Iglesia Señor de las Misericordias and the adjacent convent were declared a patrimony of Medellín in 1999. However, the passage of time has taken its toll on the structure, leading to gradual deterioration of the roof, walls, and the atrium.
