Parque Lleras is located in the heart of Medellín’s famous El Poblado neighborhood.. It’s a busy and lively nightlife area that extends beyond just the park itself. It’s easy to get there as it is located three blocks above Avenida El Poblado and Parque El Poblado, with the renowned “Calle 10” just one block away. It’s important to note that when people refer to Parque Lleras, they are talking about more than just a park, but an entire area.

The Surrounding Area

As a helpful visual cue you can use the main park (Parque Poblado) to know you’re almost there. Are you walking along Calle 10 or by taxi? Whenever you get to Parque Poblado you know that you’re just 3 blocks away. Alternatively, you can use the transition to the more wooded surroundings, marked by upscale shops and bars, as a visual cue that you’ve entered the area of Lleras.
The area just beyond is known as Provenza. Stretching from south to north, Parque Lleras reaches La Presidenta Park, a linear green space where the commercial activity of the sector gradually slows down.

A Unique Nightlife Scene

Between the intersecting areas of Provenza and Lleras you will find an active nightlife scene, with a bunch of nightclubs and bars. As the sun sets, Parque Lleras undergoes a transformation, evolving from a seemingly quiet space during the day into a nightlife area. At night the atmosphere is charged with energy and as the night gets older the streets and clubs will fill up with more people.
Therefore, a key piece of advice for people who are looking for that lively atmosphere, is to save their visit for the evening. Before 4 p.m., the area can be relatively empty and quiet, with many establishments yet to open their doors. The true face of Parque Lleras comes out around 7:00 p.m. Or 8 p.m.

Things to do in Parque Lleras

Parque Lleras is very active at night and offers many options for people looking for a fun night out in Medellín. While the area is filled with discotecas and nightclubs, walking just a few blocks up to the Provenza sector will bring you a quieter place filled with restaurants that’s perfect for intimate conversations away from excessive background noise. Let’s explore some of the fun things you can do in and around Parque Lleras.

Party in Fondas

Fondas are crossover nightclubs that play a mix of music genres. These nightclubs are decorated in a way that will remind you of traditional Antioquian towns. They offer a unique experience, especially for people who are unfamiliar with this part of Colombian nightlife. Gather with friends, drink some aguardiente, and eat some classic Antioquian snacks like empanadas and arepas while dancing to the beats of typical Colombian party music such as vallenato, merengue, salsa, and of course reggaeton.

Enjoy the Rooftop Bars

As darkness falls over Parque Lleras, the spotlight shines on the mix of discotecas and nightclubs that the area has to offer. The nightclubs in Parque Lleras take the party scene to the next level. With pulsating lights, top-notch sound systems, and a mix of resident and guest DJs, these venues guarantee an unforgettable night out.
If you are one of those people who thrive on late night excitement, you will be glad to know that Parque Lleras’ discotecas and nightclubs are open into the early morning hours. So you can continue dancing and socializing, until deep into the night.

Grab a Beer at one of the Sports Bars

If you are into sports then Parque Lleras is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Medellín’s fanatic sports culture. Head to one of the sports bars in Parque Lleras and find out for yourself. Medellin and the paises living there are obsessed with sports, so Lleras offers a great opportunity to catch a local game. Especially if you’ve already experienced the crazy atmosphere of the local stadiums with supporting teams like Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín.
If you want to catch a game of basketball, American football, MMA or any other big sport, then you will find plenty of opportunities for that as well. Enjoy some beers, take in the ambiance, and connect with locals or other foreigners over the excitement of the match.

Explore the Licoreras

If dancing isn’t your preference, you can go into the “licoreras,” where you can purchase liquor at attractive prices to consume on the spot. These establishments often provide a comfortable space with good music, making them perfect for relaxed conversations while enjoying a drink. Whether you’re winding down after a night of crazy partying or simply looking for a laid-back setting to start the night, the licoreras in the Parque Lleras area are perfect for both.

Drugs and Prostitution Problems

It’s always important to acknowledge the problems and history of a place and with Parque Lleras it’s no different. Parque Lleras has grappled with challenges related to drugs and prostitution for over a decade. However, a significant transformation plan implemented by the Medellín mayor’s office in mid-2023 is looking to address these issues.
With the installment of pedestrian barriers, consisting of 100 fences, the aim is to create a secure, pedestrian-only space. Guarded by police officers, these measures are supposed to contribute to a more controlled environment within Parque Lleras. While the changes have undoubtedly improved safety within the park, it’s important to take safety precautions anyway. That’s why we’ve made a short list with some of the most important safety tips.
