JetSMART’s new direct flight between Medellín and Buenos Aires starts November 12, 2026. The low-cost carrier will fly five times a week between José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) in Rionegro and Ministro Pistarini International Airport, better known as Ezeiza (EZE).

At a glance

  • Route: MDE–EZE, nonstop
  • Starts: November 12, 2026
  • Frequency: 5 flights per week
  • Aircraft: Airbus A320 (per AeroRoutes)
  • From: COP 901,765 one way, as of October 8, 2026

JetSMART announced the route at the end of July 2026 (iProfesional, dated July 30). El Heraldo re-reported it on October 8 as launch nears.

Argentine coverage describes it as JetSMART’s first direct Colombia–Argentina operation (Mercado). The airline lists the route on its own Medellín–Buenos Aires fares page.

This is a pre-launch guide built from the airline’s announcement as reported by Colombian and Argentine outlets. We have not flown the route, and details may change.

Medellín–Buenos Aires direct flight: what is confirmed

  • Start date: November 12, 2026.
  • Frequency: five flights per week, per Noticias RCN.
  • Capacity: 1,860 seats per week at launch (five weekly round trips, so roughly 186 seats per one-way flight), according to El Carro Colombiano.
  • Airports: José María Córdova (MDE) and Ezeiza (EZE), per El Carro Colombiano.
  • Aircraft: an Airbus A320, according to the airline-schedule tracker AeroRoutes, which lists “5 weekly A320” for the route. AeroRoutes shows an effective date of November 13 for its Ezeiza–Medellín listing, one day after the November 12 start date in Colombian coverage, so the first day’s exact direction and timing should be confirmed with the airline.

The reports we found did not publish the days of the week, departure times or flight duration. Check JetSMART’s site for the actual timetable before you plan anything around the launch week.

Fares: what’s known (as of October 8, 2026)

Portafolio reports a launch fare starting at COP 901,765 one way, taxes and fees included. The Argentine side of the announcement lists a launch fare of US$219 (ARS 330,200) per segment, final price with taxes and fees, according to Mercado.

Treat both as “from” prices, and check three things before you book:

  • Basis: treat COP 901,765 as one way (Portafolio says so; El Carro Colombiano says “por trayecto,” per leg). The US$219 figure is per segment in Argentine coverage, and the outlets do not say the two are the same fare.
  • Add-ons: Noticias RCN notes the final price changes with travel date, availability and add-ons. On low-cost carriers, bags and seat selection are typically extra, so compare the all-in total.
  • Currency: the COP and USD figures come from different outlets and will drift with the exchange rate, so confirm the price in your currency at checkout.

What it means for people based in Medellín

For expats and nomads, the practical change is simple: a nonstop removes the layover and the second airport that a connecting itinerary involves. It is also another new international route out of MDE, alongside Frontier’s Orlando–Medellín nonstop from December 10. We have not independently confirmed what current connecting options cost or whether any other nonstop exists, so we are not putting a savings number on it.

Some context for planning:

  • Getting to the airport. MDE sits in Rionegro, not in the city. Our guide to the new airport bus hub at Sandiego covers the COP 20,000 airport bus option.
  • Entry rules. Colombian immigration has been turning back some foreign visitors at MDE. If you are arriving rather than leaving, read our reports on record inadmissions at the airport and on Americans denied entry at Rionegro first.
  • Argentina’s entry requirements. Check these with Argentine authorities for your passport before booking. We did not verify them for this article.

What officials and the airline said

Local officials framed the route as a tourism and business link. Ana María López Acosta, Medellín’s Secretary of Tourism and Entertainment, described the route as a “histórica conexión” (historic connection) that brings Medellín closer to Buenos Aires in cultural exchange, per Noticias RCN. JetSMART’s commercial manager in Colombia, Carolina Ruiz, said, per Noticias RCN, that the route strengthens Colombia’s connectivity with the region.

El Carro Colombiano and InfoViajera also report that Medellín is part of JetSMART’s plan to feed connections to Caribbean destinations and Punta Cana. If the route works, it could mean more international options out of Rionegro, but that is the airline’s strategy, not a commitment about future routes.

FAQ

Is there a direct flight from Medellín to Buenos Aires?

JetSMART has announced one starting November 12, 2026, between MDE and Ezeiza (EZE). Argentine coverage calls it JetSMART’s first direct Colombia–Argentina operation; we did not find another nonstop on this city pair.

How often will it fly?

Five flights per week, per Noticias RCN. Days of the week have not been published in the coverage we found.

How much does it cost?

As of October 8, 2026: from COP 901,765 including taxes and fees for the Colombian market (Portafolio reports it as one way), and from US$219 per segment in Argentine coverage. These are separate published figures, not a conversion of each other. Bags and seats are typically extra.

How long is the flight?

No block time has been published in the coverage we reviewed, and we are not estimating one. The route is flown with an Airbus A320, per AeroRoutes. Check JetSMART’s booking page for the scheduled duration.

What aircraft will fly it?

An Airbus A320, according to AeroRoutes (as of October 2026). JetSMART’s fleet also includes A321s, so the airline’s final schedule is the authority.

Bottom line

A nonstop from Medellín to Buenos Aires from November 12 is a real boost to the city’s international connectivity. Before you book, confirm three things on JetSMART’s own site: the exact days and times, the total price with bags, and the entry requirements for your passport. We will update this piece if the schedule is published or the details change.
