Parque Explora

A hands-on science museum and one of South America's largest aquariums — the city's best rainy-day outing with kids.

The quick answer

An interactive science museum with a big aquarium and a planetarium next door — the city's go-to for families and a solid rainy-day plan. Half a day, easy to pair with the Jardín Botánico across the street.

The four red buildings you see from the metro in the north are Parque Explora, Medellín’s interactive science museum — and one of the best things in the city to do with kids or on a rainy day.

What’s inside

Hundreds of hands-on exhibits, a dinosaur hall, and one of the largest aquariums in South America, with Amazon river species you won’t see elsewhere. The Planetario sits just across the plaza. Give it a half day, especially if you’re travelling with children.

Getting there

Metro Line A to Universidad, then a short walk. The Jardín Botánico is right next door, so pair the two.
