At that time, there were no other malls in the area. The mall opened with just 80 shops and 500 parking spaces. Over time, the mall grew to include a movie theater, gymnasium, bank branches, and a food court.

The History of Mayorca Mall

Mayorca Mall, located in the southern part of the Medellín metro, has become a thriving hub of commerce and entertainment since its inception in 2002. Originally constructed to address the lack of a shopping mall in the area, Mayorca Mall has grown exponentially over the years, continually expanding and evolving to meet the needs and desires of its visitors. In November 2002, Mayorca Mall opened its doors for the first time, offering an initial selection of 80 shops. Ranging in size from 60 to 700 square meters, these stores provided a diverse range of products and services to the local community. Alongside the retail spaces, the mall boasted 500 parking spaces, ensuring convenient access for shoppers.
As the demand for more amenities and entertainment options grew, Mayorca Mall underwent a significant expansion in September 2006. This expansion involved the construction of a movie theater, gymnasium, bank branches, a food court, and an additional 120 shops. With these additions, the mall transformed into a comprehensive destination where visitors could not only shop but also enjoy leisure activities and satisfy their culinary cravings.
In November 2015, a major expansion of Mayorca opened in a new building across Avenida Las Vegas. This expansion added 78,500 square meters of commercial space in over 250 stores. This brought the total count of stores in the mall to over 400. The expansion also includes a four-floor shopping area, two pedestrian bridges that connect the new building to the original mall, and a large open recreation area used for events and several restaurants.

Exito supermarket in Mayorca is one of the largest supermarkets in the area, catering to the needs of people living in the nearby neighborhoods. The supermarket is known for offering a wide variety of products ranging from groceries, appliances, electronics, clothes, home furnishings, and kitchen items to name a few.
Exito is a popular supermarket chain in Colombia, and in Medellín, it has 26 large grocery stores, and also owns the Carulla grocery store chain, which has several locations. They frequently have sales on appliances, TVs, and other electronics which offer great discounts to customers.
For frequent shoppers at Exito and Carulla, Puntos Colombia is an excellent program to sign up for. It is a frequent shopper program where you accumulate points for each purchase that can be used to purchase items in the future. With the program, you get points for every purchase you make.

Restaurants in Mayorca Mall

Mayorca mall offers a wide variety of food options, ranging from fast food to full-service restaurants. The mall has two food courts, one located in the initial phase and the other larger one located in the new phase of the mall. With over 40 food options, there is something for everyone.
For those who are in the mood for U.S.-based fast food, there are several options available in Mayorca including Domino’s Pizza, Dunkin’ Donuts, KFC, and Subway. Visitors can also find many typical Medellín fast food options like Dogger, Frisby, El Corral, Kokoriko, Qbano, and Sarku Japan.
On the fifth and sixth floors of the new phase of the mall, visitors can enjoy a more upscale dining experience with several restaurants to choose from. Chef Burger, Crepes & Waffles, Il Forno, Milagros, Nino Pastiono, Parmessano, and Sport Wings are some of the restaurants available. Getting There & Parking​

Metro: One of the easiest ways to get to Mayorca is by taking the Medellín metro. Mayorca is located next to the Itagüí metro station on Line A. From the Poblado metro station, it’s only a 10-minute ride on the metro. Once you arrive at Itagüí station, you can take a short walk to Mayorca Mega Plaza via a pedestrian bridge. If you are in Sabaneta, there are small metro buses that run directly to Mayorca mall and the Itagüí metro station.

Car: For those who prefer to drive, Mayorca offers free parking, and the mall has approximately 1,000 parking spaces in the new phase of the mall.

Taxi: Additionally, taxi drivers in Medellín are familiar with Mayorca’s location, so you can easily catch a taxi to get there. There is a taxi stand located near the Itagüí metro station for your convenience.
