Located in the Buenos Aires comuna of Medellín, Centro Comercial La Central stands tall as one of the newest and most exciting shopping destinations in the city. Its doors swung open on May 3, 2018, greeted by enthusiastic shoppers eager to explore. La Central is the only Western-style mall in the neighborhoods east of El Centro. It quickly became a popular destination for both locals and visitors.
Though it might not be frequently frequented by English-speaking expats, the mall has captured the attention of the local community and proved to be a boon to the residents of Buenos Aires. The area has experienced a surge in real estate prices since the introduction of the Tranvía tram line, which runs from El Centro east into Buenos Aires, bringing more accessibility and prosperity to the neighborhood.

The History of Centro Comercial La Central

Originally planned to open its doors in March 2018, the mall’s construction and preparations were carried out diligently, adhering closely to the planned timeline. As with any ambitious project, minor delays were experienced, resulting in the opening taking place a few months later than initially anticipated. Nonetheless, this did little to dampen the excitement surrounding the grand opening, with eager crowds visiting the mall on the inaugural day.
The development of La Central was no small endeavor, with a significant investment of approximately 200 billion pesos dedicated to bringing the vision to life. The commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility was evident in the mall’s pursuit of U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver certification. This certification seeks to recognize buildings that employ environmentally friendly practices and adhere to stringent green building standards, further reinforcing La Central’s commitment to sustainable design.

La Central’s anchor tenants include Agaval, Exito, Cinemas Procinal, Happy City, and Smart Fit. Centro Comercial La Central boasts a diverse array of stores, making it a one-stop destination for all your shopping needs. With a grand total of around 200 shops, the mall caters to all types of customers. From the latest trends in male and female fashion to stylish clothing for children and youth, shoppers will find an extensive selection to choose from. Footwear enthusiasts will be delighted by the variety of shoe stores, while sports enthusiasts can explore the range of sporting goods available.
For those looking to add a touch of style to their homes, the mall offers furniture and decoration stores. Additionally, lingerie and optician stores are present, providing essentials and accessories for all ages. For frequent shoppers at Exito there’s an exciting rewards program known as Puntos Colombia (previously Puntos Exito). By signing up for this program with a Colombian cedula ID, shoppers can accumulate points with each purchase. These points can then be used for future purchases, effectively offering a 1 percent cashback on every transaction. With each 700 pesos spent, shoppers earn 1 punto worth 7 pesos, adding value to their shopping experience.
Exito also frequently runs sales on appliances, TVs, and other electronics, making it a favorite destination for those furnishing their homes or looking to buy a new TV. Depending on whether you plan to visit the gym by yourself and go to the same location every time, or whether you want to be able to visit multiple locations and even bring friends along. In addition to three more in Envigado, two in Itagüí, one in Bello, and one in Sabaneta, totaling 17 locations in the Medellin metro area. Fast food enthusiasts are spoilt for choice, with an assortment of well-known names having locations at the mall. Options include Al Carbón, AsiaWok, Burger King, Frisby, KFC, Presto, Mis Carnes, Qbano, Sarku Japan, Sr. Wok, and Subway. Whether it’s your favourite grilled food, Asian delights, or classic American burgers, La Central’s fast food options cater to everyone.

Getting There & Parking​

Metro:  Take the A or B metro line to the San Antonio metro station, then transfer to the
T-A Tranvía tram line that will take them to the Miraflores station. From there, a short
five-minute walk leads to the mall.

Taxi / Uber:  For those opting for a taxi, many local drivers are familiar with the mall’s location, making it a quick and easy option. Catching a taxi in front of the mall is also convenient, allowing you to easily head to your next destination after your visit.The same goes for travelling there by Uber or Indrive. Just put in the name or address of the mall, order your ride and you’re ready to go
Car: If you’re driving to the mall, you’ll be pleased to know that La Central offers sufficient parking space. With 800 parking spaces for cars, 900 spaces for motorcycles, and an additional 100 spaces for bicycles, you can park your vehicle with ease.
