Unicentro Mall is a popular shopping destination in the Laureles-Estadio barrio in Medellín. It is the largest mall in the area and one of the most frequented by both locals and tourists. The mall has a rich history and offers a diverse range of shops and businesses to cater to everyone’s needs. It’s not as big as some of the megamalls in El Poblado but at Unicentro you will find everything you would expect in a Colombian mall.

The History of UniCentro Mall

Unicentro Mall first opened its doors to the public in November 1991, nearly 19 years after the first Western-style shopping mall, San Diego Mall, opened in Medellín. Over the years, Unicentro Mall has undergone several updates and renovations, including a major remodeling project that took place a few years ago. The mall now boasts a modern and updated look that appeals to visitors.

Things to Do at UniCentro Mall

Unicentro Mall has over 270 shops and businesses of all types, making it a one-stop-shop for anyone’s needs. The mall has anchor tenants such as Exito, a popular supermarket chain in Colombia, Cine Colombia, a movie theater that screens both local and international films, Happy Land Park, a popular children’s entertainment center, and Smart Fit, a gym and fitness center.
Additionally, the mall has several banks, including Banco Caja Social, Banco de Bogotá, Banco de Occidente, Bancolombia, BBVA, Davivienda, and Itau, and a few currency exchanges, including Valores & Servicios.
Other businesses in the mall include shops selling male and female fashion, children’s and youth clothing, footwear, jewelry, sporting goods, stationery, furniture and decoration, lingerie, opticians, travel agencies, restaurants, and fast food places. For cellphone users, there are shops for the three major providers in Colombia: Claro, Movistar, and Tigo-UNE.

Visitors can take the metro to the Estadio station and then take a short walk to the mall. Alternatively, several bus routes pass by the mall, making it easy to reach by public transportation.
If you prefer the convenience of a taxi, rest assured that any taxi driver in Medellín will be familiar with the location of Unicentro Mall. Simply provide the name of the mall to the driver, and they will take you directly to your desired destination. Upon arrival at the mall, you’ll find several taxis lined up in front of the entrance and near the Exito store, making it easy to catch a ride when needed.
