Visa Type M - Marriage

For foreign spouses of Colombian citizens aiming to live together in Colombia, the Marriage Visa is the key. If you’re married to a Colombian citizen in the country, this visa ensures a straightforward process for cohabitation.
The Marriage visa can have a validity of up to three years. In some cases, the initial application may be for one year, allowing for a transition to a Resident Visa (Type-R) after three years. Holders can work and also have the option to request beneficiaries, making it a practical choice for those seeking a stable life in Colombia.

Requirements

  • Valid passport with at least six months of validity.
  • An authentic copy of the Colombian marriage certificate issued within the three months prior to the visa application.
  • Copy of the Colombian citizen’s national identification card (cédula).
  • The Colombian spouse must submit a letter requesting a visa for their foreign spouse and affirming their cohabitation.
  • Notarized or Consulate-authenticated power of attorney.
  • Certified immigration records (Movimientos migratorios) for both individuals issued by Migración Colombia.
  • Photos of the marriage.
  • Certified / Apostilled Copy of Non-Colombian Spouse Birth Certificate (must be within 90 days)
  • Birth Certificate Apostilled must be translated to english by a certified English Translator 
  • Notarized Letter from the US that you’re single

Processing Time

The processing time for the Colombia Renunciation of Nationality Visa is typically 30 days. However, it is advisable to apply well in advance to account for unforeseen delays.
