Foreigners who have spent a specific period in Colombia under valid Migrant (M) visas now have the chance to apply for the Colombia Accumulated Time Resident Visa. It is essential to ensure you meet the accumulated time requirement, avoid missing consecutive days for visa renewals, and haven’t been absent from the country for two consecutive years. Holding a resident visa for 5 years (or 2 years if married or with Colombian children) opens the opportunity to apply for citizenship.

Additional requirements

  • Visa application letter detailing the income source for personal and beneficiary support, if applicable. Describe how the circumstances that led to the granting of previous visas, subject to time accumulation, are being maintained.
  • Copy of the foreigner ID card – Cédula de Extranjería
  • For spouses or permanent partners:
  1. a) A visa application letter endorsed by the Colombian spouse or partner supporting the Migrant visa, confirming the ongoing relationship and effective cohabitation, and providing precise contact details.
  2. b) A copy of the Colombian ID.
  3. c) A notarized special power of attorney granting the foreigner the authority to apply for the visa.

Obligations

  • The Permanent Resident visa holder must request the transfer of their visa before its expiration.

  • For calculating accumulated time, continuity will be considered when a visa is granted before the expiration of the previous visa. A safe conduct (Salvocinducto) does not constitute a factor of continuity for the calculation of time accumulation.
