The History of the La Estrella Church

The history of Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá is as captivating as the church itself. Designed by Martín Rodríguez in a neo-Gothic style, the church was inaugurated in 1923. It stands as a Marian sanctuary, paying homage to the Virgin of the Rosary. A testament to its significance, the church was granted the title of Minor Basilica on April 16, 1986.
Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá, also known as La Chinca, is a neo-Gothic-style church revered as a sanctuary in honor of the Virgin of the Rosary. It’s important to note that there are other churches in the Medellín metro area with similar names, so make sure you visit the correct one.

Inside the Church

Getting There & Parking​

Reaching Basílica Menor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá in La Estrella is very simple. The easiest way to get there is by taking the Medellín Metro Line A to La Estrella station. From the station, you can catch a metro bus, which will take you near Parque La Estrella.
Alternatively, taxis are readily available at the metro station, with the trip to teach Parque La Estrella only costing the minimum fare. Many taxi drivers in Medellín are familiar with the location of Parque La Estrella, making it an easy journey.
