Experience Japan in Medellin with Authentic Japanese Food

Founded in 2019 by Chef Yuka Tomita and Alejandro Quiñones, Japoneria brings authentic Japanese cuisine to Medellín. The restaurant is conveniently located in Poblado just a few blocks away from Parque Lleras. This charming restaurant seamlessly blends traditional Japanese flavors with Colombian hospitality, creating a unique dining experience.

Yuka, from Gifu, Japan, infuses generations of family recipes into the menu, while Alejandro’s architectural background shines through the restaurant’s elegant “Wabi Sabi” design. The result is a serene atmosphere that transports diners to Japan.

Japoneria’s menu showcases a rich tapestry of authentic Japanese flavors. From meticulously crafted sushi rolls and delicate nigiri to steaming bowls of ramen and handmade dumplings, each dish reflects Chef Yuka’s commitment to tradition and quality. The culinary experience is elevated by the staff’s attentive service and deep knowledge of Japanese cuisine.

Review by Medellin Community Foodies

I walk by Japoneria restaurant for years and always wondered what the restaurant was about. So, I finally was able to stop in and was amazing the design of the restaurant. I checked out the menu and noticed very traditional Japanese food, so I gave it a try since I’m very into sushi. I also noticed on the Menu that no Sushi roll had Cream Cheese. Which was amazing; In the states or a real Japanese restaurant you don’t see Cream Cheese in all the sushi rolls. Only Philadelphia Roll has Cream Cheese for obvious reasons.  I ordered the Dumplings, a few rows of Sushi. They offered me a complimentary Tuna Salad which was amazing. Sushi, and Dumplings were amazing too. I definitely would go back to try the rest of the dishes they have.

I would recommend anyone that is really into the Japanese culture and looking for good sushi to try Japoneria; not only for the experience but for the food too. Which is a rare combination to find in Medellin.
